Important Update in 2022
Vietnam has resumed granting visas as usual and allowing foreign nationals to enter the country. Foreigners can once again enter Vietnam through its borders. There are no Covid-19 testing or health declarations necessary.
Only 30-day tourist visas are available for Vietnamese visitors. At the moment, tourist visas cannot be renewed. The Vietnamese government announced a resolution on March 15 granting visa exemptions to nationals of 13 nations, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus.
Visa Requirements for Vietnam
Citizens of the following nations do not need a visa:
- Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia (30-day visa).
- Myanmar, Brunei (14-day visa).
the Philippines (21-day visa).
- Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Japan, South Korea, Russia (15-day visa; required to hold a passport valid for at least 6 months on arrival and must make a 30-day pause between two arrivals).
- Spain, Italy, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom (15-day visa)
- A 15-day visa for Belarus. The deadline for this visa waiver is 30 June 2020.
- Kirghizistan (30-day visa).
- Chileans with regular passports that are valid for at least six months are allowed a 90-day visa-free stay in Vietnam.
- Normal passports from China, Cuba, and North Korea with the endorsement "for public affairs" are sufficient for entry into Vietnam.
- Holders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Travel Card (ABTC) are exempt from the requirement to get a visa before visiting for more than 60 days.
- Individuals who stay on Phu Quoc Island for up to 30 days without a visa. A Vietnam visa exemption is also given to foreigners and Vietnamese citizens with foreign passports who enter Vietnam by an international border gate, travel to Phu Quoc Island and stay there for fewer than 30 days. The immigration department is in charge of issuing visas on-site for guests who want to travel to other cities or stay on the island for more than 15 days after landing in Phu Quoc Island.
Passport holders from Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Japan, Russia, South Korea, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain are eligible for Vietnam's visa waiver policy. As a result, visitors from these nations are currently only permitted to stay in Vietnam for 15 days at a time and must wait at least 30 days before applying for another entry.
Therefore, if residents of those nations—Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Japan, Russia, South Korea, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain—want to stay in Vietnam for longer than 15 days or enter the country more than once in a period of fewer than 30 days, they should apply for a single entry visa with a 30-day validity period or multiple entry visas, as appropriate.
A Vietnam visa acceptance letter is required if you wish to get a visa at the airport for your flight to Vietnam and want to do so. The Vietnam Immigration Department issues tourists with this document, also known as a pre-approved visa letter or visa-on-arrival permission letter, through a local travel agency in Vietnam. It provides formal authorization for the bearer to take a trip to Vietnam and obtain a visa stamp in their passport once they arrive at the Vietnam airport.
A person's full name, passport number, date of birth, nationality, and the length of their stay in Vietnam are all included in the permission letter for a visa to Vietnam. The letter also includes information about the person or people who are allowed to enter Vietnam. Additionally, it specifies that the holder is permitted to fly into Vietnam and get their visa stamped.
Visa approval letter processing fee
1 - One-month Single-entry Visa: 15 USD.
2 - One-month Multiple-entry Visa: 30 USD.
Note:
- The given rate does not include the Visa Stamp Fee, which must be paid to immigration agents at the airport of arrival: Single entries cost $25, while multiple entries cost $50.
Vietnam Visa-On-Arrival
- You can only enter Vietnam with a visa on arrival if you land at one of the four international airports in HCM City, Hanoi, Danang, or Nha Trang. Please have the visa in advance if you are traveling by land (boat or car) from Laos or Cambodia to Vietnam because the service of the Vietnam Immigration Offices at the borders of Vietnam (in Vinh Suong - Chau Doc or in Moc Bai) is difficult and delayed.
- A Vietnam Visa Approval Letter costs 70 USD for nationals of the following nations: United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Albania, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cameroon, Algeria, Egypt, Fiji, Ghana, Gambia, Guinea, Honduras, India, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Libya (Libi), Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nepal, Lebanon, Peru, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Rwanda, Arab Saudi, Sudan, Senegal, Syria, Turkey, Zambia.
E-Visa Service:
The Vietnamese Immigration Department's electronic visa system issues electronic visas (also known as "E-visas") to foreign nationals. Vietnam E-visas are only good for one entrance and for a maximum of 30 days.
Outside of Vietnam, foreigners who wish to enter Vietnam may do so either directly through the inviting/guaranteeing agencies and organizations or by applying for an E-visa.
The Immigration Department's guidelines state that the electronic payment gateway must be used to submit the $25 USD e-visa fee. If the application is denied an e-visa, the cost will not be returned.
The Ministry of Public Security maintains two different websites, one in Vietnamese and the other in English, where applicants must fill out an application. The guideline states that it takes three working days for tourists to learn whether or not their applications have been approved. Those who are approved can print their e-visas to bring with them when they arrive.
Any of Vietnam's eight international airports, such as Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City, Noi Bai in Hanoi, and Da Nang in the central area, are accessible to travelers. Visitors can also enter the country by land via 13 international border crossing points and by the sea at 7 ports.
Conditions for being granted an e-visa
- Outside Vietnam foreigners;
- Holding valid passports;
- Not falling into the cases of suspension from entry prescribed in the Law on foreigners' entry into, exit from, transit through, and residence in Vietnam.
